Meet Kate!

Hey there, I’m Kate McCartney! I became passionate about proofreading through my journey as a writer and teacher. I was a terrible writer throughout school, but didn’t realize it, and I didn’t know why my teachers seemed to hate what I wrote (or how I had written it). Fast-forward to my years in college, when my education major required me to take a grammar course, and suddenly, the rules of English language clicked! I was empowered to help my students make sense of these rules and apply them in their own writing, and did so during my fourteen years of teaching. Now, I want to help you turn your writing into its best possible form. I can help polish your words so that your readers can concentrate on your message, rather than any mistakes that might be lurking.

Why should you have someone proofread your work?

Great question, and one that I was always answering with my students! Writers are often too close to their own writing to see some of the errors they make. As the creator of the content, you understand perfectly what you mean to say, but sometimes your message doesn’t come across quite right to your audience. That’s why it is important to have a fresh set of eyes on a document before it goes live to your readers. It’s essential not to rush this step, or else your writing may come across as sloppy, which will impact your readers no matter how great your message is!

Every author needs to understand the risk vs. reward of professional editing and make their choice:

The payoff—Readers and reviewers take notice of well-edited books.

The risk—Disappointed fans and potential readers dismiss poorly edited—or completely unedited—books.
